Doom FPS

A Doom-style first-person shooter where all game logic lives in Rhai scripts — zero Rust in the repo — including a multi-room recreation of E1M1 with doors, secrets, and hazards.

About

A Doom-style FPS built as a stress test of a question: can a complete genre game be made on Flint with no Rust code at all? The engine (vendored as a git subtree) provides rendering, physics, and audio; everything that makes it a shooter — enemies, weapons, damage, doors, pickups, level logic — is Rhai scripts and TOML data defining the game’s own components.

Levels

  • fps_arena — a small combat arena with zombiemen, shotgunners, and pickups
  • e1m1_hangar — a multi-room recreation of Doom’s iconic opening level, with doors, secrets, environmental hazards, and multiple enemy types

Technical Details

  • Engine: Flint (git subtree) — rendering, Rapier physics, spatial audio
  • Game logic: 100% Rhai — enemy AI, weapon handling, interaction, HUD
  • Content: custom ECS component schemas in TOML; billboard sprite enemies and props
  • Assets: Python generators for audio, sprites, and textures
